The Scottish Seaweed Industry Association is delighted to announce the appointment of Rhianna Rees as its first Business Development Manager. This new role is being funded jointly by Marine Scotland and Crown Estate Scotland in recognition of the important potential for this small but rapidly expanding industry in Scotland.
Rhianna will be bringing new ideas and skills to the benefit of the industry in general and to SSIA members in particular.
Chairman of the SSIA, Owen Stevens, said, “This is an exciting time in the development of the seaweed sector and we are delighted to welcome Rhianna onboard to help steer the industry forward. The growing seaweed sector will bring benefits to many smaller communities and to the Scottish economy in general."
Richard Searle, Director and Company Secretary, said, “This appointment marks an important milestone in the development of this industry. I’m confident Rhianna has the professional and personal skills to manage the SSIA’s efforts to drive this industry forward for both the fast emerging seaweed farming sector and the still growing wild harvesting sector. Rhianna commented, “I’m greatly looking forward to joining the SSIA and keen to support and drive the industry forward at such a vital time. There's lots to do to make Scottish Seaweed as synonymous with Scotland as whisky and salmon are to the rest of the world, but I'm confident with the SSIA we can work together to take those leaps."
